Interest Rates Hold Steady: A Window of Opportunity for Refinancing

Interest rates have remained stable within a narrow range over the past five weeks, currently sitting at the lower end. While recent economic data has shown some volatility, including the "prices paid" component of the ISM Manufacturing report hitting a multi-year high, it wasn’t enough to drive bond yields higher today. Although this surge in prices could have been concerning, other economic reports provided a boost for bonds.

For example, the employment metric within the same report dropped several points, nearing long-term lows. Additionally, job openings and job quits both declined, which is favorable for bonds. As a result, despite the rise in prices, these other factors helped guide rates to the lower end of the range, contributing to the third consecutive day of modest rate improvements.
